About Flame Retardants & Smoke Suppressants

Based on hydrated alumina chemistry, ATH flame retardants provide halogen-free flame retardancy and smoke suppression by releasing bound water when exposed to elevated temperature. This endothermic reaction helps absorb heat, dilute combustible gases and form a protective alumina residue at the polymer surface. In coatings, rubber and polymer systems, ATH supports reduced flame propagation, lower smoke generation and safer fire-performance formulations while maintaining good dispersion and processing characteristics.

Frequently Asked Questions

Important information about Flame Retardants & Smoke Suppressants, grades and applications.

They replace conventional halogen-based additives with eco-friendly materials that reduce toxic emissions while maintaining superior flame resistance.

AL FR (hydrated alumina) releases water at 220°C, while MAG FR (magnesium hydroxide) activates at 330°C with higher heat absorption, making it suitable for more demanding conditions.

Yes, both grades are highly compatible with architectural and water-based coatings.

No, they actually enhance gloss retention and maintain smooth film formation.

Absolutely. Both series are non-toxic, halogen-free, and designed for sustainable coating formulations.
